About Anniversary Phil

I started this web site back in the Nineties on a Hobby basis as there was no simple web resource to discover what your Wedding Anniversary was and what gifts were available for it, whilst there is now lots of gift web sites I think we are still unique in that we actually list all the Anniversary Years and have gifts for virtually all of them (We strive for all anniversaries however sometimes gifts go our of production) Personally I've been married since 1987, got 2 Kids (now grown up) and my hobby has turned into my full time job, which I Love. I'm always happy to recieve feedback about our site (good or bad) so feel free to contribute to our blog or drop us an email.

Gold Roses

A real rose preserved and covered in 24k gold. Each one is unique and each is handmade through a 40 step process. Regular roses fade in days but these gold roses will last and be treasured by her forever. Each rose is preserved under the metal so it will last for years, and is also made strong by the process so it is not too fragile to touch or hold.

What Anniversaries are not celebrated

Unless you know different we are not aware of the following anniversaries having a special name or symbol/material associated with them;

  • 65th Wedding Anniversary (our Wedding Anniversary history page tells why)
  • Any anniversary not devisiable by 5 after the 50th Anniversary. (Check it on our Wedding anniversary selction page)
  • Number of years you’ve been married equals the calandar day you got married e.g. if you got marriaed on the 11th September and you’ve been married 11 years.
  • Married to your partner for half your life, I think this should be called the Half-life Anniversary!

If you know of any other convergencies that should be recognised in the marriage please let us know

What we do, we think we do it well!

We’ve got many ideas for Wedding Anniversary gifts not only for the milestone occasions but all anniversaries from the 1st Anniversary through to the Diamond Wedding and beyond.  With gifts available for couples, wives, husbands, friends and family we are sure we will have something they’ll love. We have a collection of gifts that are not only competitively priced they are also specially selected to match with the Traditional or Contemporary Wedding Anniversary Lists that accompany each Wedding Anniversary.

If you are not sure what material is associated against the wedding anniversary you are celebrating please contact us and we’ll let you know not only the Traditional and Modern material but also the Gemstone and relevant flower, if any, that is associated with the anniversary.

What’s the difference between China, Pottery and Porcelain

We’ve been working on adding more gift ideas to our suggestions and wanted to clarify what the difference is between China, Pottery, Porcelain and Bone China as each of these are a different symbol used for various anniversaries.

This is what our research concluded from our prospective:

Pottery (Traditional 8th Wedding Anniversary gift symbol) is a very generic term.  It is generally used to refer to items made from clay.  Within this context I think it refers to handmade items by the artisan, or craftsperson using their hands, molds, or a potter’s wheel.

China (Traditonal 20th Wedding anniversary gift symbol), in this context, refers to a ceramic dinnerware coming out of the country of China which was particularly fine and generally with a white base.  The mineral Kaolin is used to achieve this look. Typically it refers to any high quality, natural material (as opposed to man made) ceramic, dinnerware or otherwise.

Bone china, which is a generic term actually contains bone ash added to the clay and was the English response to china’s high quality porcelain exports. It’s characteristics give it whiteness and translucency that is often considered better that chinese porcelain however its high manufacture costs have always kept it in the luxury market rather than the broad spectrum some porcelains enjoy.

Porcelain (Modern 18th Wedding anniversary gift symbol) is the term used to refer to high quality ceramics typically originating from the China region.  Kaolin is used in the manufacture, and it is usually delicate however it is also relatively tough. With good quality Porcelain you should be able to see the shadow of your fingers if you hold it up to the light with your  fingers behind it.

2nd Year Wedding Anniversary

So its your 2nd Wedding Anniversary and you are wondering what the material or symbol is for the second year anniversary? Well the traditional anniversary gift would be themed around Cotton or Straw or for a more contemporary idea the modern list shows China as the theme.  Now the lists don’t stop there because you could also look to the Gemstone Anniversary list which suggests Rose Quartz (although some lists also quote Garnet) and if this is still not your ideal theme the flowers are Cosmos, of which there are many varieties.

Cotton gifts are relatively easy to find with Handkerchief gifts sets and personalised Mr and Mrs Robes or Towels a great choice and popular. We see a lot of Rose Quartz items purchased for the 2nd Anniversary both Necklace/Pendant sets and a lovely double Rose Quartz heart which is great for the 2nd year

Planning your 1st Anniversary

Now we’ve got the technology where do we start blogging we asked ourselves! we’ll after much soul searching and navel gazing we thought we would start with nothing to do with Anniversaries and talk about the wedding!!

Why I hear you ask; well as if you’ve not got enough on your plate at the wedding there are some great things you can do during the run up to the wedding day and immediately after to help make the first (and future) anniversaries more memorable.
Remembering simple things and jotting them down (either on paper or in a blog) really help, believe me after a year of what will be an extremely busy one likely to be full of change and acclimation to becoming one half of a ‘couple’ there will be some details that you wished you had remembered.

We’ve put a basic list below of some of the things people forget as an aide memoire; use it as a list to store the details against. Is there something you wish you could remember from the actual wedding day let us know and we’ll add it to the list as a useful reminder for other couples.

  • First Song Danced to as a married couple.
  • Last song Danced to at the Wedding Celebration
  • The Menu for the Wedding Breakfast meal.
  • The Band or DJs Name
  • The Official’s name (or their formal title)

Is there something you wish you could remember from the actual wedding day? Let us know and we’ll add it to the list as a useful reminder for other couples.
